Could Kawhi Leonard score on Kawhi Leonard? This is the question asked of both sides, one representing his offensive mastery and the other his defensive tenacity. In the hopes of settling once and for all which is better, The Jordan Brand commercial highlights his deadly skill on both sides of the ball. In the end, they came to the same conclusion as the other 31 teams in the NBA.
There is no answer.
“Check the points. Check the points again” referring to the best scoring season of his career averaging over 25 points per game while shooting close to 50 percent from the field. In the postseason Leonard took it to another level carrying the Spurs to the Western Conference Finals before leaving in Game 3 due to an ankle injury. He finished the season 9th in point per game and is on the shortlist for the NBA Most Valuable Player Award. All season long he produced plays that had fans saying “Those Dunks Tho”.
On the other hand, Leonard’s defense is nothing to sneeze at. He’s known around the league as one of the best perimeter defenders there is. Nicknamed “The Klaw” for his freakishly sized hands and wingspan, Kawhi has a knack for snatching the ball from opposing players finishing top ten in steals for the third season in a row. If that wasn’t proof enough, In the past 4 seasons of his career, he has not finished outside the top ten in Defensive Efficiency. Stack those accomplishments with the fact that he’s the only active player with more steals than fouls and it brings full circle his defensive resume. Simply put, you don’t want Kawhi Leonard defending you.
But no seriously could Kawhi drop buckets on Kawhi? Leonard has lockdown down the likes of Russell Westbrook, Steph Curry, Lebron James and James Harden just to name a few. He also put quite a few players on posters and sealed the fate of many teams with a gamer winner or two. So what chance would he have against himself?
