Cowboys taking a stand in 2016

Written by 2 minutes, 3 seconds Read

The Dallas Cowboys have given up some key pieces to their puzzle in a stand against controversial team behavior this year. Former running back Joseph Randle is still not with the team after a string of arrests and incidents dating back to the summer of 2015. Former Defensive end Greg Hardy may be in or out with the Cowboys in 2016 at this point and a once promising interest in Johnny Manziel seems like a faint memory. Most important for the 2016 season former Defensive end Greg Hardy may be in or out with the Cowboys in 2016 at this point.

The Cowboys are expected to make a decision on Hardy soon. The standout defensive end started 12 games in 2015 and had a presence felt not only on the field but off it. Between the meltdowns seen on national television on game days and the alleged partying that decreased his productivity, the Cowboys and Hardy formed a disconnect. Manziel and Randle were a different story.

For Joseph and Manziel their troubles started early in their career and were often. In 2014, Manziel was the subject of many incidents leading up to his rehab trip. The quarterback out of Texas A&M then proceeded to keep making headlines in 2015 off the field culminating with his start to 2016 being a domestic violence incident with his ex-girlfriend. The Cowboys are not expected to sign him after interest arose when the 2015 season ended. Joseph lost his role on the team after becoming a full-time starter this past season. The running back showed signs of becoming one of the fastest backs in the league until the Cowboys released him after a disturbance at Kansas Casino in November.

The Cowboys seem to have set their standard but what becomes of a situation in which you need a pass-rushing defensive end? Up and rising Randy Gregory was suspended for the first 4 games of 2016 due to an NFL substance abuse violation. How will the Cowboys do battle without their starters from 2016? What will happen with Gregory as he returns from suspension?

That all is to be determined like the status of Hardy.

still not finalized with where we’re going to come down on that.”
