Rico Love, better known as Mr. Turn the Lights On, is an evolving singer- songwriter and producer from Louisiana who has been the man behind the hits for more than a decade. Beginning with the work of the song “Throwback” for Usher’s 2004 album Confessions, Love has continuously written songs for artists that have reached the top of the charts.
Diddy, Fantasia, Fergie, and Keri Hilson are just a few of the many artists that Grammy Award winning producer and songwriter Rico Love have worked with. Born Richard Preston Butler, Jr. ; Love known for his catch phrase ‘Turn The Lights On’ is now trying his hand as an artist penning hits for himself like ‘They Don’t Know’ off his recent EP “Discrete Luxury” released in 2013. Over the last two years Love has become one of the most sought after producer/songwriter with request for hits that garnered his Grammy wins in 2009 and 2010 by artists like Chris Brown, Marques Houston and Omarion. We have even seen Love in a few cameos of Love & Hip-Hop Season 2 working in the studio with Olivia and Teairra Marí who were looking to Love for a comeback hit. The former Florida A&M University learner at just 31 years old has built a catalog ranging in Latin, Pop & R&B of undeniable greatness and is continuing to flourish. Dopeness Magazine’s Chris Rogers caught up with “Mr. Turn The Lights On” to discuss his partnership with Interscope Records for the development of his label Division 1, his new artist Tiara Thomas, being a father and becoming a household name.
