BYU Football: 3 Players That We Will See a Lot of vs. NMSU

Written by 2 minutes, 2 seconds Read

A week after a disheartening loss at San Jose State, the BYU Cougars will head to sunny Las Cruces, New Mexico, to play the New Mexico State Aggies.

The Aggies are perhaps the worst team in college football. They are certainly the worst team in the WAC and are on an impressive nine-game losing streak (their only win came in the opener against FCS foe Sacramento State). Heck, they lost to Idaho.

If you can’t tell already, we should see plenty of different players on the field this weekend. Here are three that you should keep your eye on.

Paul Lasike, RB

We saw bits and pieces of rugby star Paul Lasike in BYU’s blowout win over Idaho. With 44 yards off of 12 carries, we should see improvement against the Aggies.

With Josh Quezada’s transfer, Michael Alisa’s injury and the rise of Jamaal Williams, the running back position has gone through chaos the last few months. This could be a chance for Lasike to show BYU who he really is and prove that the Lasike-Williams pair could be threatening.

Alani Fua, LB

I included Alani Fua on a preseason list of players to watch, but with the talented defensive front seven BYU has, he has not seen very much playing time. Fua is currently averaging around one tackle per game, although he did not play in four contests this year.

If BYU runs the score up early on, we’ll likely see a few different linebackers in the game, including Fua.

James Lark, QB

After years of waiting, preparing and waiting some more, James Lark may finally get his first collegiate start on Friday after nearly five years of waiting.

It’s crazy that, with all of the quarterback struggles BYU has had, he hasn’t had a shot at starting at any time during his long career.

It will be interesting to see how Lark performs against the Aggies. If he performs well, along with these two other players, it should be a fun game to watch.
