tpbkKendrick Lamar, seen performing Sept. 13 in Atlanta, surprised fans with the release of his second album 'To Pimp a Butterfly,' one week early.Like Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar also pulls some more musical surprises from under his sleeve, Kendrick fans received an enchanting surprise Sunday night with the release of his highly anticipated sophomore album “To Pimp a Butterfly.”

Before Sunday night, Lamar’s fans thought that the follow up to his 2012 much celebrated debut album “good kid, m.A.A.d city” was slated for a March 23 release.

He took to Twitter on March 6 to announce the release date by linking to an iTunes page which revealed that the album contained 16 tracks, including his recent single release, “The Blacker the Berry.”

Kendrick’s post also specified that his latest project would not include his two-time Grammy Award-winning song, “i,” which he released last fall.

“I taught myself to really be in the studio and come up with ideas,…Being on the road, you start to become like a robot.”
the Compton native previously told Complex magazine.

The album is available in its entirety on iTunes and Spotify one week early. While “Berry” is in the 16 track lineup, as promised, “i” is also in the lineup as well as “King Kunta,” which leaked online last week.

Regardless of how his new album pans out, if “i” — which Pharrell Williams described as pure “brilliance” after its September release ,is any sign of what his fans can expect, the album will not certainly not disappoint.
